A 22 month course extensively covering how to clinically assess children and adolescents.

THIS COURSE WILL ENABLE YOU TO:

Assess children over a shorter period of time;

Uncover abuse and neglect;

Decide what placement is needed for the child and/or siblings;

THIS TRAINING WILL OFFER YOU:

a comprehensive knowledge of developmental child psychology;

The ability to assess a child within 2 -3 hours;

The ability to successfully use different projective techniques with children;

The ability to do a holistic assessment on the child (cognitive, attachment, peer and sibling relationships, perception of self, trauma, abuse, dissociation etc.);

The ability to do the full assessment successfully on completion of training.

The capacity to assess children from a well rounded point of view, supported by a multitude of scientific and research data that have been peer reviewed.

Admission Criteria:
​
This course is only for qualified professionals in one of the following areas:
-
Qualified social workers with HPCP registration who have completed some training in counselling or working as therapeutic social workers.
-
Qualified psychotherapists/counsellors with professional registration.
-
Qualified psychologists with professional registration.
-
Practitioners working with children for more than two years, with some previous qualification in counselling/play therapy who would like to work towards professional registration.

You must hold a current valid registration with a professional body. eg. BACP, UKCP etc.

You will be required to sign a legally binding Non-disclosure and Confidentiality agreement. This agreement includes your license to use the model.

About The Course
• Except for the final exam the course is 100% online.
• You can log in via our online portal and do the course in your own time.
• Total of 120 CPD Points awarded.
• The bulk of each module consists of a range of video lectures carefully explaining each topic.
• Every 2 months you get to join in on a secure video call, called a Review Session. Based on feedback you provide, one of our examiners will be discussing general progress and answer any questions you may have.
• For the final exam, you are required to attend our offices for 4 full days.

At the end of each Module, you will receive an assignment in the form of theoretical questions, that have to be completed. This assignment will cover the most recent lecture's content.
You will have to start assessing children (more informally to start off with) and apply the techniques that you have been taught after each Module. You will be required to provide feedback regarding your assessments as part of your practical work and case presentation for future discussion.

For exam week, please note that you must attend the entire 4 days. This will be a practical exam based on everything have learned over the duration of the course.

Resitting your final exam will incur an additional charge of £250.

Who can attend this training?
This training is only available for counsellors, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, therapists and mental health professionals who are registered with a professional body in the country where you are practising. You must be actively working with children and/or adolescents to do this training.
Your membership credentials will be required at enrolment. It is a criminal offence to submit false credentials.
What are the pre-requisites for the course?
You must have all the relevant professional qualifications and hold a current valid membership to one of the recognised regulatory bodies in the country where you are practising.
Why do I have to sign a confidentiality agreement?
We have a legally binding Non-Disclosure and Confidentiality agreement, which each and every delegate must sign. This particular course not only gives you access to various elements which are of a sensitive and highly confidential nature, but you have an individual and exclusive license, to use the model for the purpose of assessing children and adolescents. The agreement outlines the restrictions and conditions under which you may use the model. This agreement is also to ensure that a high level of privacy and confidentiality is maintained.
How has the course changed from the original?
This new Assessment Training is a complete overhaul of the original. The course has effectively been redesigned and rewritten from the bottom. This includes enormous amounts of new data, research information and media.
Can I cancel my course subscription and start back up at a later point?
Yes, but resubscribing to the course will incur an additional £55 administration fee.
What will I need to access the online course information?
All online aspects of the course will require PC (Windows 7 or higher), Mac (OS X 10.7), iOS6 or Android 4 (all devices must be updated to the latest versions of internet browsers and system updates). You will also need a stable broadband connection with a minimum speed of 2mbps (download) & 0.5mbps (upload). Recommended speeds for HD video is 8mbps (down) & 2mbps (up).
Can I pay upfront instead of doing a subscription?
No, unfortunately we do not allow pre-payment on this course.
Does the course have a specific start date?
No, the course has a large element of video content allowing you to start the course any time when you are ready and you can learn at your own pace.
What is the shortest time I can complete the course in?
22 Months
Why does the course take so long to complete?
This course includes the study of Child Developmental Psychology. Given the enormous amount of content to learn and practice, it is impossible to complete the course any sooner.
What if I cannot make one of the Review Session video calls?
If you miss the video call, you will be required attend the next scheduled call. You cannot miss more than 1 consecutive session or your course progress will be suspended until you have joined for the Review Session.
I do not live in the UK, can I still do the course?
Yes, you can still sign up and do the course; however, you will still be required to visit our office in the UK for 4 days, to complete your final exam.
Do you make provision for doing exams in other countries.
Yes, but only for groups of 8 or more and there are additional costs involved. Please email us at hello@bictd.org to enquire.
Does the final exam really take 4 days to complete?
No, but a key part of your training is being able to sit and observe other assessments so that you can learn more about the different assessments situations, tools and approaches. Part of this time will include observing and learning from other assessments.
What is required to complete the course?
You must work through all the video and test sessions,
Attend a minimum of 8 live (video) supervision sessions and attend both Archive Days. (International students please see International Section)
What if I am currently only working with adult clients?
Unfortunately you are required to be working with children or adolescents; or be guaranteed to start working with children and adolescents within no more than 3 months from starting the course.
How much of my time will the course take?
You should aim for between 7 and 9 hours a month to cover the course content or approximately 2 hours a week. Plus at least 1 hour a month to complete your Assignment.
When and how will the Review Sessions take place?
The Review Sessions will take place between 6pm and 8pm UK time on every 2 months and will be scheduled 1 month in advance. These sessions are conducted via secure web-conferencing so there is no need to travel.
Can I reduce my subscription cost by jumping ahead and viewing all the sessions?
No: All content is regulated and you are not able to jump ahead. The purpose of this is to ensure that no Review Sessions are missed and that aspects of the course is not applied without any accountability.
Do I get a formal Qualification with this course?
This training does not provide an accredited qualification; it is to support and further professional development. You must have already obtained an accredited qualification in order to do this course. On completion a certificate will be awarded to contribute to CPD points.
